Things to Do in Sevierville, TN: A Local's Guide

Sevierville is Dolly Parton's hometown and the front door to the Smoky Mountains. The tourist numbers here dwarf most Tennessee cities. Some folks visit and never leave — that's the second-home and cabin market I work every day.

I'm David Millard with Real Estate Concepts. I work these towns every day. Here's what's worth your weekend in Sevierville.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The main event. No admission fee, 800-plus miles of trails, Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome. Go early in the morning or you'll sit in traffic at the Gatlinburg entrance.

Dollywood

Technically in Pigeon Forge, 15 minutes down the Parkway, but it's Sevierville's backyard. World-class theme park, plus Splash Country water park in summer. Buy tickets online.

Tanger Outlets Sevierville

One of the biggest outlet centers in the Southeast. People drive here from three states to shop.

The Apple Barn and Cider Mill

An institution. Apple fritters, apple butter, fresh cider, and the farmhouse restaurant. Go hungry.

Soaky Mountain Waterpark

A huge outdoor waterpark with slides, a wave pool, and a swim-up bar for the adults. Summer only, and it sells out on hot Saturdays.

Downtown Sevierville

Dolly's statue on the courthouse lawn. Local shops, the Sevier County Heritage Museum, and a quieter pace than the Parkway strip. Worth an hour.

Smoky Mountain Knife Works

Billed as the world's largest knife store. Even if you don't care about knives, it's a sight to see.

Townsend: The Peaceful Side of the Smokies

When the Parkway gets to be too much, Townsend is the antidote — the peaceful side of the Smokies, about 40 minutes away. Cades Cove, Little River tubing, and quiet mountain roads. See my full Townsend guide.

Sevierville is quieter and cheaper; Pigeon Forge is in the middle of the action. For living here full-time, Sevierville wins.

The national park — no admission fee, and it's the most-visited national park in America for a reason.
