Maryville Weekend Guide: Downtown, Coffee and the Smokies' Doorstep
Maryville is the town people land in when they want the Smokies in their windshield and Knoxville in their rearview. Two days here: downtown on day one, the mountains on day two. This is the relocation-scout weekend.
Day One: Downtown Maryville
Morning: Coffee at Vienna Coffee House at 212 College Street. Roasted on-site, historic building, the downtown living room. Then walk Broadway and the College Hill area near Maryville College.
Afternoon: Lunch downtown, then the Blount County Historical Museum if it is open. Walk the Maryville Greenway along Pistol Creek.
Evening: Brackins Blues Club at 112 East Broadway. Live blues, pub food, bourbon. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Or Foothills Milling Company for the upscale dinner.
Day Two: The Smokies' Doorstep
Morning: Drive to Townsend, the peaceful side of the Smokies, about 25 minutes away. Cades Cove is right there. The 11-mile loop is the single best morning in the region.
Afternoon: Tube the Little River in Townsend, or visit the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. Back in Maryville by late afternoon.
Evening: Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria on Broadway. Pizza, craft beer, live music most nights. The Friday night crowd is half the town.
Where to Stay
Downtown Maryville has a growing set of rentals and inns. Chain hotels cluster along Alcoa Highway. If Cades Cove is the priority, look at Townsend cabins for night two.
Good to Know
Parking: Free street parking and public lots downtown. Cades Cove has a big lot but it fills by mid-morning on weekends.
Timing: Do Cades Cove early. The loop road gets congested by late morning, especially in fall. Vienna opens at 7 AM.
