Harriman Weekend Guide: Riverfront Parks and Small-Town Charm
Harriman is a river town with a walkable downtown and some of the best free riverfront in Roane County. This is a slow weekend. No lines, no crowds, no rush. Built for people who like their Saturdays unhurried.
Day One: Downtown and the River
Morning: Start at David Webb Riverfront Park on Emory Drive. Walk the riverfront, watch the Emory River go by, use the 100-foot dock if you brought a kayak.
Afternoon: Walk historic downtown Harriman along Roane Street. Then Killeffer Park for the green space and playground if you have kids along.
Evening: Dinner at RoCo Social at 301 North Roane Street. Family-owned Southern food, live music, cornhole courts. The downtown hangout.
Day Two: Watts Bar Lake
Morning: Watts Bar Lake is minutes away. Put in a boat, fish from the bank, or just drive the shoreline roads.
Afternoon: Lunch at Los Primos on South Roane Street. Family-run Mexican since 2006, and the patio is the move in good weather.
Evening: Ice cream at Midtown Ice Cream on Roane State Highway, then a sunset walk back at the riverfront park.
Where to Stay
Harriman has a handful of chain hotels along Roane Street near I-40. This is also an easy day trip from Oak Ridge or Kingston if you would rather base there.
Good to Know
Parking: Free everywhere. Downtown street parking and park lots, no meters, no garages.
Timing: The riverfront park is best in the morning before the heat. RoCo Social gets lively on Friday and Saturday nights.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Harriman worth visiting?
Yes if you like river towns without the tourist markup. The riverfront park is genuinely nice and the whole weekend is cheap.
How far is Harriman from Knoxville?
About 35 to 40 minutes west on I-40.
Can you boat on the Emory River?
Yes. The riverfront park has a dock and the Emory feeds into Watts Bar Lake, so there is plenty of water to explore.
